Greetings, fellow Faculty Research Assistants and Research Associates!
We know that there is a lot of uncertainty and mystery around the promotion process for Faculty Research Assistants (FRAs) and Research Associates (RAs). Confusion over eligibility and timelines for promotion at the university level, differences in deadlines and guidance at the department level, and outdated or incorrect information at every level result in some faculty missing the opportunity to go up for promotion when they become eligible.
If you are an FRA or RA and have questions about the promotion process, I hope that you will join us for a virtual workshop on the topic of promotion for non-tenure-track research faculty on Thursday, December 5th at 12 pm. Register here.
Co-hosted by fellow research faculty Eliza Smith (FRA, Crop and Soil Science, UAOSU CAS Representative) and Joey DeShields (FRA, Horticulture/SOREC, UAOSU Vice President for Non-Corvallis Faculty), we’ll talk about eligibility and the different timelines for promotion throughout OSU, share advice gathered from faculty members who have been through the process already, and highlight the promotion benefits for non-tenure track research faculty as described in our union contract.
During the session, we’ll take your questions, comments, and concerns so that we can continue to gather information that is relevant to you in navigating your promotion.
So, if you’re thinking about going up for promotion in the future, are in the middle of the promotion process, or if you’ve been promoted and have advice for your colleagues, please join us for the session on December 5th from 12 to 1pm. Invite your colleagues to join you at this event, and if they aren’t UAOSU members yet, encourage them to join at uaosu.org/join.
In solidarity,
Bill Thomas, UAOSU Vice President for Non-Tenure-Track Research Faculty
